What is the length of the agreement?

Home visits are completed every two weeks to check that there have been no
substantial change since our previous visit.

How often do I get paid

The hosts are paid weekly by bank transfer.

What if I go on Holidays?

This is absolutely fine. Let us know when you are away and we will not book any student with you.  

Who can host? Is there a specific type of family that is preferable to host students

Anyone who is caring, attentive, and understanding is a perfect Homestay provider.

What do you expect from families?

We expect the hosts to include the students in their everyday activities and encourage them to learn the language and share a unique experience.

Can the student extend the booking?

Students might extend their bookings. The accommodation officer will always contact our host  before confirming any changes. If they want to extend, you should not accept any money directly from the student; they will pay the school.

Can I cancel the students booking?

While it is understood that occasionally homestay providers may have to cancel due to an emergency, we do not expect our homestay providers to cancel unless it is unavoidable. If after taking in a student, and for any reason the arrangement does not work and you wish the student to leave, please contact us.

What do I do if my student is not happy in my home or if the relationship with the student is difficult?

Homestay providers and students are asked to discuss any issues with our team . However if we cannot find a solution we will do our best to  move the student as soon as possible.

Which requirements does my house need to have for me to become a Homestay provider?

You need to own the property, have common areas, a fire alarm, a carbon monoxide alarm, and an updated gas certificate.

Will I always have students booked for my room ?

This depends on the time of year and the demand. Summer is the busiest time, but we also receive long-term student requests for winter.

Do I need to inform the school about any changes in my availability or changes in my personal details?

Yes, as soon as there is any change, you need to notify the school. The school needs to know if you are available to take students and needs to keep an up-to-date profile of the host

How many students can I have and for how long?

You can host a maximum of four students at the same time. You cannot host under-18s and adults together, unless they are relatives, or they are sharing a room. The length of the stay is flexible and depends on your availability and how long the student wants to stay.

Do I need to inform the school about any changes in my availability or changes in my personal details?

Yes, as soon as there is some change, you need to notify the school. The school needs to know if you are available to take students and needs to create a profile of the host for the student that has updated and trustable information. 

I have a dog, is this okay?

When finding a suitable home for the student, we take into account the personal preferences of both the host and the student regarding pets. So don’t worry pets are welcomed and even preferred by a big majority of our students.

Do I need to pay tax for my hosting income ?

Up to £4,250 per year is tax-free. Please follow the link for more information regarding tax for renting your room  https://www.gov.uk/rent-room-in-your-home/the-rent-a-room-scheme. 

What food do I need to provide?

For breakfast, we normally recommend serving toast or cereal with tea and coffee,fruit, and options like jam, ham, or cheese. Some students may ask for the traditional English breakfast of fried bacon and eggs, however, it will all depend on the student's preferences. For evening meals, you can serve traditional English food or international cuisine. Fish and chips, roast dinner, or curry are very popular. It is crucial to provide a meal plan that offers a diverse range of nutritious options.Typically,a packed lunch consists of a sandwich, a packet of crisps, and a piece offruit.

What if I am concerned about the student's safety and welfare?

You need to report any concerns to us. We will speak with the student and follow the safeguarding procedure that the student needs.

Can I host just for a week?

Yes, one week is the minimum booking for students.  

Can I offer my room without food?

Yes, the school offers a self-catering option, You will need to make sure you have enough space in your cupboard and fridge for the use of the student.
